One With You by Sylvia Day Review

One with you
Crossfire #5
by Sylvia Day
Published on April 5th 2016
St. Martin's Griffin, 464 pages

Gideon Cross. Falling in love with him was the easiest thing I've ever done. It happened instantly. Completely. Irrevocably.

Marrying him was a dream come true. Staying married to him is the fight of my life. Love transforms. Ours is both a refuge from the storm and the most violent of tempests. Two damaged souls entwined as one.

We have bared our deepest, ugliest secrets to one another. Gideon is the mirror that reflects all my flaws ... and all the beauty I couldn't see. He has given me everything. Now, I must prove I can be the rock, the shelter for him that he is for me. Together, we could stand against those who work so viciously to come between us.

But our greatest battle may lie within the very vows that give us strength. Committing to love was only the beginning. Fighting for it will either set us free ... or break us apart.

Heartbreakingly and seductively poignant, One with You is the breathlessly awaited finale to the Crossfire® saga, the searing love story that has captivated millions of readers worldwide.

- Goodreads.com description

"Oh, the bittersweet moment when one of your favourite series comes to an end. Eva and Gideon, I am going to miss you deeply."

The book that I've been eagerly awaiting the past 4 years is finally here. I've been captivated by Eva and Gideon's story from the start. All I ever wanted was for them to strive and be happy. It's been a long journey.

The final installment wasn't short on surprises. But I must say it was short on unanswered questions. I anticipated that all the fucked up things that happened to Eva and Gideon would get resolved in this final installment, instead, we got more drama and no answers.

Nonetheless, the Crossfire series is so far the best romance written in the 21st century.

Eva in this final book becomes a confident and incredible woman. Gone is the insecure girl haunted by her past. She is badass.

Gideon, on the other hand, becomes more... human (so to say). He is still cold and controlling from time to time, but Eva manages to make him calmer. She believes him, and that to Gideon means everything. Considering how he coped with no one believing him when he was a child, this is huge.

The whole book revolves about their wedding, Eva moving into the penthouse, and more or less overcoming their issues and building a secure and confident relationship dynamics. It all comes down to trust - which is what matters the most. The romance was very good, the love that Eva and Gideon share is really consolidated in this book. Which I am so happy for because - after all the hell they've been through - they deserve it. In the end of the day it comes down to the two of them and their struggle to make this relationship work, and this is why this book, in my opinion, deserves 4 stars.

So, if you haven't yet heard about this amazing Crossfire series, or you did but haven't managed to get into it yet, I strongly recommend you to do it ASAP. As I said before, this is the best romance out there right now.

If you haven't read the book, please read no further.

SPOILER RANT!

I felt like the previous book left too many questions open and this one had left me with too many unanswered. I honestly thought that this book will concentrate on solving all those loose ends not creating more even more questions. Plus I have a feeling that all the questions and the answers from the previous book got swept under the table in this one. Like:

The book about Gideon that Corrine was going to publish which was such a HUGE deal in Captivated by you, and when we figure out that Deanna was the ghostwriter of the book, Gideon just offers her a job and that's it. We don't even know if she accepts it.

All the threat of Anne Lucas and her involvement with Cary was just... what? A filler? A fling? In the end she just disappears. Along with her husband, dr. Lucas. Odd.

Where the hell is Brent?! He was so loud about Eva being the love of his life in Reflected in you and Entwined with you, and now what? He disappeared from the face of the earth.

All that Lancorp shit that broke Eva and Gideon apart in Captivated by you ... swept under the table? It just fucking disappeared. So much for "Eva they are coming for you to get to me" - never happened.

And what about Cary's baby?! Tatiana does not even make an appearance in the final book. For fuck's sake we get to know that she might be dating someone else ... but booh who knows what is gonna happen there? Same goes for Trey. A mess.

And Gods, the death of Eva's mom was, honestly, the worst thing written. I think if Lucky died, Eva would have cried more than she did for her mother. He death was so pointless. They didn't even mourn her. Nothing. Not even a shed tear. Ridiculous.

The whole deal about Monica's past and why she couldn't be with Victor... really? Ludicrous.

And, I mean, out of all the enemies Gideon had.. a random stranger shoot at them and killed her mother? Anyone else shooting at them would have made more sense.
Did you feel the same? Some other feelings upon finishing the book? Let me know in the comments! :)
